Volunteer Visitation Supervisor
The Volunteer Visitation Supervisor is trained to monitor visitations between the parent who does not have custody and the children, where the safety and welfare of the children might be jeopardized.
Visits are usually held on a weekly basis for one hour and are held at Family Service in Lancaster. Visits may occur in the late afternoon or evening hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays. The same schedule must be maintained every week. A volunteer is matched with one family.
Volunteers are expected to make a six month commitment, feel comfortable requiring adults to follow rules, feel comfortable with children, be able to keep information private, and be responsible. Volunteers must agree to a State Police Criminal Check and a PA Child Abuse History Clearance, with clearances paid by Family Service.
Volunteers are trained and supervised by the staff of the Supervised Visitation Program.
Specific duties include: Monitor the arrival and departure times of the participants; monitor the visitation between the non-custodial parent and children; observe and listen to all the interaction; intervene or assist with the visitation when appropriate; record observations; monitor the safety and welfare of the children.
